Table of contents
1. Download Scilab sources via anonymous SVN access
1.1. Install a subversion client
You can install Subversion by compiling its source code release directly, or you can
install one of the prepackaged binaries if there is one for your operating system.
If you are not familiar with the command line client, you will find some GUI clients and pluggins here.
1.2. Logging in to the Scilab repository
The cvs login operation you used to perform is no longer necessary.
This operation is now performed during the checkout itself, since you access the Subversion Repository using its URL.
1.3. Two access methods
A subversion repository can be accessed in different ways : svnserve and http. svnserve protocol is faster than
http access but if you behind a firewall or a proxy, you can encounter some problems using this protocol.
1.4. Checking out
In order to check out something with Subversion, you use the checkout subcommand :
svnserve access :
[$SHELL]cd <download_path>
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab svn://frioul.inria.fr/scilab/trunk/scilab
[$SHELL]cd scilab
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab svn://frioul.inria.fr/scilab/trunk/man
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab svn://frioul.inria.fr/scilab/trunk/tests
http access :
[$SHELL]cd <download_path>
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab http://frioul.inria.fr/svn/scilab/trunk/scilab
[$SHELL]cd scilab
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab http://frioul.inria.fr/svn/scilab/trunk/man
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab http://frioul.inria.fr/svn/scilab/trunk/tests
1.5. Checking out a specific branch or tag version
svnserve access :
[$SHELL]cd <download_path>
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab svn://frioul.inria.fr/scilab/branches/BUILD_4/scilab
[$SHELL]cd scilab
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab svn://frioul.inria.fr/scilab/branches/BUILD_4/man
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab svn://frioul.inria.fr/scilab/branches/BUILD_4/tests
http access :
[$SHELL]cd <download_path>
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab http://frioul.inria.fr/svn/scilab/branches/BUILD_4/scilab
[$SHELL]cd scilab
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab http://frioul.inria.fr/svn/scilab/branches/BUILD_4/man
[$SHELL]svn co --username anonymous --password Scilab http://frioul.inria.fr/svn/scilab/branches/BUILD_4/tests
1.6. Updating
In order to update, you use the update subcommand.
This is no different from CVS, you change into your checked out copy and issue a svn update (or, shorter, svn up) command :
svnserve or http access :
[$SHELL]cd <download_path>/scilab
[$SHELL]svn update
