Summary :
V.I.P.Scilab is a Video and Image Processing toolbox for Scilab. V.I.P.Scilab
1.0 can work with any machine that has Scilab-2.7, Windows Media Player under
Windows or Mplayer under Linux. It need SIP and ImageMagick support.

Description :
As an important branch of Computer Science, image processing has been widely
used in intelligent identification and prettification of visual effect.
SIP,an image processing toolbox for Scilab, is accepted by more and more
persons for its powerful functions and open-source characteristic. But when you
use SIP, you have to input command lines every time, and memorize parameters of
the fuction that you are using, which is inconvenient and boring for SIP users.

With our works, the above trouble is released and comfort is companied with you
during your using SIP. In our software, we give GUI for common functions of
SIP. Now, you can just go with your mouse. We also add some convenient
function, such as batch processing, undo, redo, image preview and so on. In a
word, all we do is to make Scilab and SIP easier for users.
Video processing oriented to video streams has an important role in the
monitoring moving objects. Providing an interface of video processing for
Scilab can not only make full use of the powerful matrix manipulation of
Scilab, but also extend the application domain for Scilab. We provide those
common video processing methods based on the uncompressed video streams of AVI
files. Furthermore, a complicated video processing demo - detecting the moving
maritime objects is presented.

Advantages :

1) User-friendly GUI for SIP

User-friendly GUI on the one hand can reduce user's inconvenience much in their
experiences with SIP, on the other hand can attract more new users to choose
SIP. With the help of GUI, you will find SIP comfortable.

2) Batch processing

If you want to have images processed in the same way, batch processing is a
nice choice to avoid iterant manipulation.

3) Undo and redo commands

Usually undo and redo are for text, now with our effort you can use undo and
redo for images. When you want to cancel the current operation and return a
image to previous state, you can execute the command undo.
Redo is used when you execute undo, but you want to have the image recovered to
previous state.

4) Directly edit codes in multi-function code-editor

All operation codes that are executed can be exported to the code-editor ,
where you can edit the codes directly and execute them to see the result. The
code-editor includes the basic commands: undo, redo, save, execute, set font,
find, open a new .txt or .sci file, clear and so on.

5) Image preview

We provide an image-preview window when you do image processing. With the
image-preview window, you can view the processed image immediately and compare
the processed result with original image. Especially under Linux, if the image
to be processed is truecolor, we directly display the image without the step
that change a truocolor image into an index one. In the way the display quality
is better because of no restrictions of color palette scale.

6) A detailed document

The document is very important for a software. In our document, we try our best
to introduce you how to install and use our software step by step, and we also
show you how we realize our function detailedly.

7) Video processing

Main functions:
.Open an AVI file and get the information
.Get the uncompressed video frames of the opened AVI file
randomly by the index
.Create and write a new AVI file
.Common video processing methods, such as temporal
differencing,backgroundsubstraction,etc.
.Special video processing methods for detecting the moving
maritime objects.
.Process the video stream as a batch according to the
processing of the sample frames.

V.I.P.Scilab is developed as part of the 2004 Scilab Contest in China. It comes
under the Free Software Foundation's General Public Licence, and use of
V.I.P.Scilab commits the user(s) to the terms of that licence.
We welcome everyone to develop this toolbox to an advanced and steady one. You
can refer to our documentation for more support.
