General guidelines: high-quality passwords | page 20 of 21 |
As mundane as it may sound, choosing high-quality passwords for
yourself, and "encouraging" (that is, mandating that) your users to do the
same, is a cornerstone of good security. Remember to avoid common words
and names, especially any that are related to you such as the name of a
friend, where you work, or your pet's name. Also avoid guessable numbers
such as your birthday or anniversary. Instead try to use random
combinations of letters, numbers, and punctuation.
