Understanding edquota | page 10 of 18 |
The soft limit is the maximum amount of disk usage that jane has allocated
to her on the filesystem (in other words, her quota). If jane uses more disk
space than is allocated in her soft limit, she will be issued warnings about
her quota violation via e-mail. The hard limit indicates the absolute
limit on disk usage, which a user can't exceed. If jane tries to use more disk
space than is specified in the hard limit, she will get a "Disk quota
exceeded" error and will not be able to complete the operation.
