If you want to kill a process, you have several options. By default, kill sends SIGTERM, which is not identical to SIGINT of Control-C fame, but usually has the same results:


$ kill 16217
$ jobs -l
[1]- 16217 Terminated              xeyes -center red
[2]+ 16224 Stopped (signal)        xeyes -center blue
