On the print server (where the printer itself is actually located) add the following line to /etc/inetd.conf:

printer stream tcp nowait lp /usr/lib/cups/daemon/cups-lpd cups-lpd

Then restart the inetd daemon:

$ wajig stop inetd $ wajig start inetd

From a client identify the printer as something like:

lpd://athens/lp1
